NAVAJO/INDIAN PREFERENCE POLICY

In filling vacancies, the school shall give preference to qualified enrolled members of the Navajo Tribe in accordance with the provisions of the Navajo Sovereignty in Education Act of 2005. Verification of Navajo/Indian preference must be submitted with the application if claiming Navajo/Indian Preference.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Dean of Early Childhood, the incumbent of this position connects and support student’s family to support student academic performance.

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

·         1 year of related experience
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent required with at least 18 credit hours or more in early childhood education.
Required to obtain an Associate Degree in a related field, such as Family & Child studies, elementary education within five (5) years from date of hire.
Must be able to obtain an Education Assistant License and/or a Substitute Certificate through NMPED within thirty (30) days from date of hire. Incumbent will be hired on a Provisional Contract.
Each CYFD funded preschool program classroom with a child-personnel ratio greater than 1:10 must have an educational assistant with an Associates of Arts Degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education.
Any Educational Assistant who does not currently possess an AA Degree in early childhood education must provide evidence of completion of a minimum of six (6) college credits hours towards the degree annually.
Proof of a physical examination within the last six months, which includes a tuberculosis test, and comply with other background checks as required by To’Hajiilee Community School Board of Education, Inc.
First Aid, CPR and Food Handler’s Certificate
A valid New Mexico Driver’s License
·         Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, Public Law 101.630
­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters are required, glasses permitted. Ability to hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid is required. In most instances, an amputation of arm, hand, leg, or foot will not disqualify an applicant for appointment, although it may be necessary that this condition be compensated by use of satisfactory prosthesis. In addition, applicant must have mental and emotional stability.

The incumbent is required to drive a motor vehicle to conduct business at field locations.
A valid State Driver’s License is required.
