Provide executive oversight, plan, organize, evaluate, and coordinate the development and implementation of the monthly SMSC Education Committee meeting and agenda. Provide guidance and strategic oversight to the monthly SMSC Education workgroup meeting focusing on goals and objectives of the Community.

Responsible for overall operations of all SMSC Education Programs to include kindergarten, elementary, middle, high school support, as well as post-secondary assistance programs. Conduct school visits to establish and maintain relationships with school personnel to improve and promote the educational goals and needs of the tribal member students and families.

Oversee and participate in the SMSC interdisciplinary team on matters of education. Supervise and direct the activities of the SMSC Education staff and Provide for their ongoing professional development (CEUs), includes interviewing, selecting, hiring, and promoting employees, including training in conscious discipline crisis intervention training and other trainings for the well-being of the education staff and families served by the department. Manage, review, and implement the student information system Infinite Campus used by the Education department.

Provide oral and written presentations on behalf of the department to the Tribal Administrator, the Business Council, educational organization and education agencies, and various community member groups.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education required
  • 5-10 years experience working as a teacher, administrator or related leadership role in the Education
    field.
  • 5-10 years of leading, coaching, mentoring and building high performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to administer education programs.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the Dakota people, their culture, history and contemporary status.
  • Related work experience working with native students, communities and issues.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, computer skills, tutoring skills, and grant writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to: promote a positive, caring climate for learning; deal sensitively and fairly with
    persons from diverse cultural backgrounds; and communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database.
  • Experience with local, state and federal laws and related reporting.
  • Valid Class D driver’s license may be required with a good driving record
