Job Title: 6th/7th Grade Math Teacher

Primary job responsibilities include teaching five sections of 6th and 7th grade mathematics and
designing a culturally responsive, place-based yearlong curriculum. In addition, all full-time teachers
serve as an advisor to 10-15 students per year and actively participate in grade-level and content teams.
The ability to incorporate Native American culturally relevant lessons into the Connected Mathematics
curriculum (or the desire to learn to do so) is also highly preferred.

Duties:
● Interacts effectively with students, staff, parents and the overall school community
● Supports ongoing instructional leadership among teachers and other staff to address curriculum
development and overall program development in the classroom and school various setting
● Implements Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for identified students.
● Assess and report on students’ progress toward their academic/career readiness goals, as noted in
their IEP as aligned with the instructor’s content area
● Assess and report on students’ Present Levels of Performance (PLP) for areas of need as aligned
with the instructor’s content area
● Attend IEP/BIP/EDT Manifestation meetings as invited/notified
● Provides a safe and effective learning environment for students, staff and overall school
community
● Conducts on-going self-paced professional development and self-guided classroom assessment of
instructional and curricular design
● Leads twice-weekly student advisory period

● Works collaboratively with colleagues on quarterly, interdisciplinary performance tasks
● Contributes to the overall school community by supporting student clubs, activities and special
programs related to school’s vision, mission and goals
● 20 minutes before or after school campus supervision
● Regularly communicate with parents and legal guardians regarding child’s performance, track and
record student progress and keep records up to date for progress reports and report card conferences
● Review curriculum needs and execute plans for improvement, and provide tutoring and additional
support
● Act as a role model by making your students feel motivated while maintaining an approachable
personality
● Attend school events to better understand student interest and personalities outside of the regular
classroom, build strong relationships with your students and aid in the strengthening of their selfconfidence while inspiring them to achieve high goals

Qualifications:
● Bachelors in secondary education with a focus in mathematics
● Experience in planning teacher-designed units
● Knowledge of backwards planning
● Ability to incorporate Native American culturally relevant lessons into mathematics curriculum
(or the desire to learn to do so) is strongly preferred
● Experience teaching in a classroom environment
● Ability to communicate effectively with all staff and colleagues
● Flexibility and high adaptation skills to work successfully in a school setting
● Organization and communication skills

Certificates and Licenses:
New Mexico Teacher’s certification for specific area aligned with Tier III Requirements (i.e. Level I,
Level II, Level III) or the willingness to attain one through an alternative licensure program.
Supervision Received:
Is under the direction of the NACA Executive Director and Instruction and middle school Head of
School.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive
