Based on the district’s strategic priorities, this position is responsible for providing visionary, effective, collaborative leadership for the improvement of student learning; daily improvement of instruction and student academic achievement; supervision of secondary schools; and building relationships with community partners. Oversight of district programs and departments may include, but are not limited to: ESSA/OSSI compliance at district and school levels; Community Coalition; bargaining with certificated staff; oversight of Truancy, Student Services, AVID, School Counselors, Athletics, and Career and Technical Education.
The Director of Secondary Schools is focused on supporting district and school improvement efforts (district’s strategic plan) through building the capacity of principals using the AWSP Leadership Framework to guide the work. While many factors outside of our direct control affect student learning, the district’s ability to support high quality teaching in every classroom is essential. Along with the teacher, principals play a primary role in improvement of learning at scale. MSD is focused on improving how it supports principals and the schools they lead.
